Retention
/detention ponds around the Atlanta Georgia area today have experienced heavy sedimentation due to the past volume of new
construction and heavy rain events. This creates shallow water in wet ponds and encourages the growth of algae and aquatic
weeds causing bad water quality. If silt is allowed to pass through the outlet control structure to other lakes and stream
systems, serious legal issues can occur .
Vegetation that has been allowed to grow into mature trees in a retention
pond will drop limbs and debri, potentially blocking the outlet control structure and causing serious flooding and blowout
situations. Major vegetation coupled with standing water in a retention pond is an excellent habitat for snakes and can create
a large snake population in a residential area.
Retention / detention pond service is a major part of Long Reach
Excavations focus. Our specialized equipment enables us to remove silt, vegetation, replace or clean rock filters at outlet
control structures as required, regrade slopes and any other erosion issues present .
